2019 has started in a magnificent manner for many involved with the Bournemouth Touch Rugby set up. Viper 10‘s local touch rugby organisation has seen an incredible five members of the club be named in England Touch‘s upcoming Touch Rugby World Cup squad, a monumental achievement!
As well as the international selections, Bournemouth Touch also received a brand new, completely bespoke playing strip from Viper 10 Sportswear in preparation for their 2019 tournaments. Who doesn’t love some new stash to start the year off!?
The 2019 Touch Rugby World Cup is being hosted by Malaysia and takes place from 29thApril to 4thMay (Monday to Saturday). The event will see the finest touch sides in the world compete in 7 separate divisions; ranging from the Mixed 30s to the Men’s and Women’s Over 50s cups.
Bournemouth Touch, who share affiliation with fellow Viper 10 Sportswear partner Bournemouth Rugby, have gone from strength to strength in recent years but having five players named in three separate England sides for the 2019 World Cup is an unbelievable accolade.
From Bournemouth Touch, Cathi Farrer and Kara Buckley will be representing England in the Mixed 30s division, whilst Daniel Connolly and Nicholas Best will feature in the Men’s 35s tournament. Alongside the aforementioned, Shane Wilson has been named in the Men’s 40s squad.
The 2015 World Cup was slightly diminished by the horrendous weather conditions but proved a positive tournament for England, who exceeded all expectations. The England team bagged three bronze medals, a fourth place and came in equal third place (tied with Papua New Guinea) behind touch powerhouses Australia and New Zealand.
Optimism is high for the upcoming World Cup, as the growth of the Touch format of rugby has seen great improvements on English soil since the 2015 tournament.
